CarRally ("we", "our", or "the app") is a solo-developed iOS application for planning and sharing driving routes. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect
Location DataCarRally requests access to your device's precise location for the following purposes:

‍Map centering — to position the map at your current location when you open the route builder.

‍Group Rally live tracking — when you voluntarily join or create a group rally session, your location is shared with other session participants in real time via our backend service (Supabase). Location sharing starts only when you explicitly start a rally and stops immediately when you leave the session.

Your location is never collected in the background except when you are actively participating in a group rally session and have granted "Always" location access.

Routes and Waypoints
Routes you build are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. They are not uploaded to any server unless you explicitly choose to publish a route to the public Discovery feed.

Published Routes
If you choose to publish a route to the public Discovery feed, the route name, waypoints (latitude/longitude pairs), distance, duration, tags, and a pseudonymous participant identifier are stored on our Supabase backend. No name, email address, or other personal information is attached to published routes.

Session Data
When you participate in a Group Rally:
Your display name (as entered in the app) and your location (latitude/longitude) are shared with other participants in the same session.Session data is deleted from our servers when you leave the session.We do not store historical location trails.App SettingsYour display name and app preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's standard User Defaults.
They are not transmitted to any server.

2. Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials.We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics frameworks.We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.We do not track you across apps or websites.

3. Third-Party Services
Supabase
Group Rally sessions and public route discovery are powered by Supabase (supabase.com), a cloud database platform. When you use these features, data is transmitted to Supabase's servers in accordance with their Privacy Policy.Apple MapKit & WeatherKitCarRally uses Apple's MapKit for mapping and WeatherKit for displaying weather at route start points. Apple's privacy policies apply to these services. No location data is sent to Apple beyond what these system frameworks require to function.Open-MeteoElevation data for route profiles is fetched from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), an open-source weather and climate API. Waypoint coordinates are included in requests to retrieve elevation data. Open-Meteo does not require an account and does not track users.

4. Data Retention

‍Local routes: retained on your device until you delete them.
‍Rally session data: deleted from our servers when you leave the session.
‍Published routes: retained on our servers indefinitely unless you contact us to request deletion.

5. Children's Privacy
CarRally is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

6. Your Rights
You may request deletion of any data associated with your pseudonymous participant identifier by contacting us at the address below. Because no personal account exists, we identify your data by the participant ID stored on your device (visible in the app's settings if needed).

7. Changes to This Policy
‍We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
